Missionary Baptist Church Details

Members of Cades Cove's Primitive Baptist Church didn't believe the Bible allowed for missionary work; those Baptists who believed that they were compelled to go out and spread the teachings of Christ formed this aptly named church. The congregation was founded in 1841, but a church building wasn't raised on Hyatt Hill until 1894. The building you see here now was a replacement that opened its doors in 1915. In the spingtime you may notice a planting of daffodils nearby that spell out "CO 5427" -- these perennials were planted by the 5427th company of the Civilian Conservation Corps, responsible for building most of the roads in the park in the 1930s.
