Appalachian Trail Details
The 2,179-mile trail known as the Appalachian Trail cuts through the Smoky Mountains, traversing a grand 71 miles, the majority of which are in Tennessee. Beginning near Fontana Dam, and terminating around Davenport Gap, the trail follows the famous white blazes through some of the more remote parts of the park. This section contains the highest point on the trail--Clingmans Dome, at 6, 643 feet-as well as a number of well-known Smoky Mountain landmarks, like Rocky Top and Mt. Cammerer.
