Northern Rail Trail Details

This 58-mile path from Lebanon to Boscawen is the longest rail to trail conversion in the state. It follows the former Northern Line of the Boston and Main Railroad system, which was in operation from 1847 until 1965, although it was used as a freight train for another 17 years before being decommissioned. Starting in Lebanon, the trail snakes along the Mascoma River and makes nine bridge crossings in the first 4 miles. It also travels past several lakes (Mascoma, Webster, and Mirror), as well as through the towns of Enfield, Canaan, Orange, and Grafton.
