Fort Constitution State Historic Site Details
Situated on the eastern peninsula of New Castle Island, this historic fort dates back to the early 17th-century. After being captured and abandoned by the British during the Revolutionary War, it was rebuilt and used by the state during the War of 1812, the Civil War, WWI, and WWII. With a prime location overlooking the Atlantic, this fort is a scenic place to explore nature while also learning more about early American history. The Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse also sits near the fort and is the only lighthouse on mainland New Hampshire.
