The small parking lot for the Howe Lake Trailhead on the Inner North Fork Road can be easy to miss, but if you want to see wildlife, it's worth the search. Marshy Howe Lake is the perfect place to spot moose, beaver, and loons. The easy trail winds two miles through an old burned forest, climbing only about 240 feet. As you near the lake, take a break from the talking and listen for the sound of loons calling. The lake is known as one of the few places in the park that often has nesting loons. Remember, Glacier is grizzly country. Carry bear spray, make noise and travel in groups.
