Shapleigh Town Forest Details
As the 43rd town incorporated in Maine, Shapleigh has a long history of residents, logging, and millwork. Not a large area, the actual town has worked hard to ramp up conservation efforts to conserve their natural areas. Though it was almost completely destroyed in the Great Fires of 1947, it has since rebuilt and worked hard to restore its forests and trails in areas such as the Shapleigh Town Forest. Still a work in progress, the short mile and a half trail runs along old roads and through trees to eventually open up onto the beach of Square Pond.
