Goose Falls Details
As another one of Maine's peculiar reversing waterfalls, Goose Falls takes a special place in the Holbrook Island Sanctuary. Created by tidal overflows being pushed through narrow passageways, these falls flow both ways depending on the time of day. A rare sight, but not unknown in Maine, the entire Holbrook Island Sanctuary itself is rare, almost completely untouched by anything but the forces of nature. The Goose Falls Trail here is one of few on the island and offers views of the popular Penobscot Bay, surrounding islands, and of course, the reversing falls.
