Fortune's Rocks Beach is approximately 2 miles of perfect sandy shoreline that is popular for swimming, sunbathing, walking, and jogging. The name here is the most interesting part though. Francis Fortune, a young sailor and American privateer in the revolution was once shipwrecked on this spot before being captured by the British. After being released due to his young age, he was taken in by a young couple. After the man’s death, he married the widow and they became the popular Uncle and Aunt Fortune of town.
