Schooner Head Overlook Details
This vantage point helps demonstrate what Acadia might have looked like had its land not been set aside for use as a National Park. Your view of rocky Schooner Head and Frenchman's Bay is interrupted by a large private home that stands on land just outside the Park boundaries. If you look to the northwest, you can see the entire ridgeline of Champlain Mountain, a massive outcropping of coarse-grained pink granite. The mountain is estimated to be 420 million years old and still stands more than 1,000 feet above sea level despite eons of erosion.
