Schoodic Peninsula Loop Road Details
A six-mile road that winds through the Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park, offering access to all major points of interest as well as a couple of spur roads. Open to motor vehicles and bicycles alike, the road connects at both ends to Maine Highway 186, starting near Winter Harbor and ending in Birch Harbor (outside of Park boundaries, the road is two-way). As you approach the Park gates from Winter Harbor, you'll pass the Schoodic Peninsula Campground. Upon entering the Park, the road takes you to the Frazer Point area, where there is a picnic area, restrooms, and a bus stop. Heading south, you'll intersect with the gravel road leading to Schoodic Head, then the paved spur road to Schoodic Point. Next is the Blueberry Hill parking area, which features trailheads for the Alder and Anvil trails. The road then parallels Schoodic Harbor before exiting the Park. Near the terminus in Birch Harbor is another bus stop, making a nice loop for bicyclists who want to use public transportation to explore the Peninsula.
