Porcupine Islands Overlook Details
The Porcupine Islands in Frenchman Bay are part of Acadia National Park, along with Mount Desert Island and Isle au Haut. Looking to your right, you'll see Bald Porcupine, marked by a steep cliff on its southern flank. Scanning left, you'll see Bar Island, Sheep Porcupine Island, Burnt Porcupine Island, and Long Porcupine Island. These islands have few human visitors and no natural predators, making them important nesting sites for bald eagles and black guillemots -- a sea bird related to the puffin -- as well as other wildlife. Harbor seals, porpoises, and even the occasional minke whale, may be spied along their shorelines.
