Brown Mountain Details
The Brown Mountain parking area serves as the trailhead for the Lower Hadlock Pond Trail and the Sargent Mountain South Ridge Trail, the latter a less-traveled route to the summit of Sargent Mountain. The Gate Lodge you see here was built in 1932 to keep cars off the carriage roads. Like the gatehouse at Jordan Pond, it was designed by architect Grosvenor Atterbury and built in a French Romanesque Revival style. Today, it's a private home.
