Amphitheater Loop Details

Trail Type: Easy Distance: 5 miles From the Brown Mountain Gatehouse parking lot, the trail follows the marked road up a small hill to Post 18, turning right, and climbing another small hill to Post 19. Still gently climbing, the trail turns right again, and occasionally gives good vistas of the Cranberry Islands. Turning left at Post 20, the trail heads to Amphitheater Bridge, which crosses Little Harbor Brook in the midst of a lush evergreen forest. After a long descent, the trail reaches Post 21, and bears right, becoming particularly rocky in places, and evening out around Post 22. A right at Post 22 takes the trail along a carriage road that parallels Little Harbor Brook, rising to the Little Harbor Brook Bridge, and continuing to climb gently through a mixed-wood forest that is occasionally studded with amazing views. The trail turns left at Post 20, and circles back to post 19.
