Inspiration Point Details

At first glance, this short .7-mile trail might not seem like much. After all, it is located in the secluded hills of the Shawnee National Forest miles away from town and civilization. But once you reach the top of the trail and see the views from atop a limestone rock, you will realize that this hike was worth setting aside time for. You will have dramatic, sweeping views of the Mississippi Valley stretching as far as the eye can see. The Big Muddy River meanders along the bottom floor, although after a rainfall, you might see other ponds and puddles dotted around the area as well. And do not forget to look upwards too you might just find a few turkey vultures hovering above.
