Silversword Loop Trail Details
This one-mile loop trail off of the Halemau'u Trail gives hikers an up-close (but don't touch!) look at the rare silversword (ahinahina) plants endemic to the high elevations of Haleakala National Park. The plants grow in the thin, delicate volcanic soil and have small leaves that reflect solar radiation: they only flower once in their lifetime, then die.
