Deering Point Trail Details
If you're looking to really spend some time out on the water, check out the 15-mile-roundtrip Deering Point Trail. The trail begins at the canoe/kayak launch at Deering Point and travels south along the mangroves to the channel at the Black Point Trail. When paddling along the mangroves, be sure to keep an eye out for birds nesting or wading in the shallow waters to find their next meal. Use caution when crossing the channel, and paddle no further than the Black Point Marina and Ocean Grill, a terrific place to take a break before turning back around to paddle back to your launching point. Safe paddling practices include going with a buddy, filing a float plan so someone knows where you're going and with whom, checking the weather for high winds or storms; carrying extra water, food and sunscreen; and paddling within your experience level. Find a PDF of the trail guide on the park's [website]( https://www.nps.gov/bisc/planyourvisit/canoeing-and-kayaking.htm).
