East Portal Campground Details

East Portal Campground is located two miles downstream of Crystal Dam at the bottom of Black Canyon. To get there, take CO-347 six miles north from the junction with US-50 to the entrance of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Turn right just past the entrance station (where entrance fees apply), and follow East Portal Road five miles down to the campground. Note that vehicles exceeding 22 feet in length (including trailer) are not permitted on this road, due to a steep grade and sharp curves. The campground, shaded by box elder trees, is in close proximity to the historic Gunnison River Diversion Tunnel. It is generally open from May to mid-October, and campsites are $16 per night. Sites are first-come, first-served, so arrive early. Sites have picnic tables, fire grates, potable water (mid-May to mid-September), and vault toilets.
