South Rim Road takes a turn 3.7 miles west of the Visitor Center, and here you'll find Chasm View, another short trail to an overlook. From here, the view is truly remarkable, one of the best on the South Rim. To the east, the river snakes below and the canyon walls grow closer and closer; trees and other vegetation provide color and a sense of scale, and at the right time of day, the light can be quite dramatic. One of the few accessible overlooks, Chasm View is a must see and under the right conditions, can be an excellent spot to watch the sun rise or set.
