Ribbon Fall Details

Despite being the largest single-drop waterfall in North America, this fall is often overlooked due to its proximity to the popular Bridalveil Fall. Fed by melting winter snow, the fall disappears in July, so the earlier spring months tend to find it most vivacious. Then, the narrow, silvery stream of water seems to slice the granite sides of El Capitan before plunging into an icy pool at its base. The water here is so cold that in some years, a large, iceberg-like cone forms where the moving water meets the pool. Visible from points along Southside Drive, near Bridalveil Falls. Height: 1,612 feet Flows: approximately March through June, with peak flow in May.
