Red Fir Forest (T7) Details

The red fir gets its name from the bark of the mature tree, which is almost a chocolate color with a reddish tinge in the sunshine. Because of its high elevation, the montane forest climate is characterized by short, moist, cool summers and cold, wet winters. Snow begins to fall in November and may accumulate to depths up to six feet and remain until June. Roadside marker: T7
