While at this spot, note the gravel in the river bank before you - this is glacial outwash debris deposited by the Merced River when the Yosemite glacier was melting behind the moraine just above here. You can also see some rocks with large pinkish crystals - these are Cathedral Peak Granodiorite and were carried over 18 miles by a glacier.
