Terminal Geyser Trail Details
Terminal Geyser is not actually a Geyser -- there are no geysers in Lassen -- but rather a giant fumarole, or volcanic vent. A relatively new landscape feature, this fumarole may have occurred as a result of a geothermal drilling operation during the late 1960s: the geyser is only 100 feet from the drilling site. To get to Terminal Geyser, follow the Warner Valley Trail to Boiling Lake and continue another two miles down the trail through the woods. The trail also passes by Hot Springs Creek, making it the only trail to encounter three hydrothermal features if you choose to hike it in its entirety. The Boiling Lake Trail and the Terminal Geyser Trail are one in the same. Terminal Geyser is also an out and back destination and can be reached by hiking the Warner Valley Trail to Boiling Lake. The trail, which circumnavigates the lake, spurs off and continues through the woods. This is the Terminal Geyser trail. The "geyser" is reached by continuing down this trail for another two miles.
