Indian Cove Nature Trail Details
On the west side of Indian Cove Campground, the .6-mile loop Indian Cove Nature Trail highlights the plants, animals, and former Native American residents of the area. The trail features interpretive signs to help visitors identify the well-known, plentiful Mojave yuccas in the area as well as other native plants including desert willow. A seasonal highlight in the spring and early fall is the chance to see the desert tortoise, California's state reptile. Classified as threatened due to habitat loss as well as in influx of ravens, which predate on tortoise eggs, the slow-moving animals emerge from their burrows in the spring to forage and look for mates. The trailhead for this easy .6-mile loop hike is at the west end of Indian Cove Campground.
