There are six distinct mountain ranges within Joshua Tree National Park: The Little San Bernardino Mountains in the southwestern part; the Hexie, and Pinto Mountains in the center; the Cottonwood in the south; and the Eagle and Coxcomb Mountains in the eastern part. The Coxcomb Mountains are the most rugged and least visited within Joshua Tree, and thus are a haven for wildlife. The highest point in the range is Aqua Peak at 4,416 feet.
