There are six distinct mountain ranges within Joshua Tree National Park: The Little San Bernardino Mountains in the southwestern part; the Hexie, and Pinto Mountains in the center; the Cottonwood in the south; and the Eagle and Coxcomb Mountains in the eastern part. The Cottonwood Mountains are closest to the park's southern entrance and feature the Cottonwood Visitor Center, Cottonwood Spring area, Mastodon Peak, Cottonwood Oasis and Lost Palm Oasis, as well as a number of backcountry roads.
