Titus Canyon Road Details
Titus Canyon Road is the most traveled backcountry road in Death Valley National Park, owing its popularity to its relative ease of access (high-clearance 2WD vehicles ) and many points of interest along the way, including the Leadfield ghost town, the petroglyphs at Klare Spring, the great views from Red Pass, and of course the dramatically beautiful Titus Canyon narrows. You can also stop and hike into lower Titanothere Canyon; it's 2.5 miles one-way to Lostman Spring. There is a short, two-way section of Titus Canyon Road running from Scotty's Castle Road to the mouth of the canyon (primarily used by hikers seeking access to Titus Canyon and Fall Canyon), but the rest of the 26.8-mile road is one-way, east-to-west. To drive the whole thing, you actually have to start 2.7 miles outside the park's eastern boundary, where the road connects to Highway 374. Expect the drive to take at least 2 to 3 hours. Note that despite it's relative popularity, Titus Canyon Road is steep, rough and narrow in places: you may occasionally need to stop, get out of your vehicle, and scout the road ahead before proceeding.
