Phinney Canyon Road Details
This 21-mile dirt road provides access to the high woodlands of the Grapevine Mountains in the triangle-shaped wedge of Death Valley National Park that juts into the state of Nevada. You can drive as far as the canyon's pass, where you'll have views of the mountains and the valley. You also may explore Strozzi Ranch Road, a dead-end spur off Phinney Canyon Road. Travel is prohibited beyond the pass. The road connects to Highway 95, 11.8 miles north of Beatty. You can drive the first 15 miles with just a high-clearance vehicle, but you'll need 4WD beyond that and on Strozzi Ranch Road. Snow closes this road in winter.
