The Owlshead Mountains backpacking route begins at the Confidence Mill site (6.6 miles from Ashford Junction on Harry Wade Road) and goes across open country and up a gravel wash into the canyons of the Owlshead Mountains, including Through Canyon. Hikers will enjoy a hidden basin within the mountains dotted with smoke trees, and have the option of to make a loop (16 miles total) by returning via Granite Canyon.
