Little Hebe Crater Trail Details
Ubuhebe Crater was formed by an underground steam explosion caused when magma heated groundwater. The Little Hebe Trail takes hikers to the west rim of the crater and to Little Hebe, a spatter cone created by a magma eruption. The trail is a half-mile out and back, but you can extend your hike by adding the 1.5-mile loop around the rim of Ubuhebe. The trail begins at the Ubehebe Crater parking area, 8 miles west of Scotty's Castle. Hikers are advised to only hike this trail in cooler months (September-May).
