Leadfield Ghost Town Details
This ghost town at the head of Titus Canyon was born of fraud, with promoters attracting miners and others to Leadfield with images of steamboats sailing to the town on the (actually dry and distant) Amargosa River, and other ploys. Still, there was a viable mining industry here for a brief period in the 1920s, with a stamp mill, a post office, and a 15-mile road connecting Leadfield with Beatty, Ariz. The gold soon ran out, however, and that was the end of the town, most of whose residents never progressed beyond living in tents and dugouts. The Titus Canyon Road is still there, along with a few rusty buildings, cars, dugouts, tailings and other mine debris. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended if you want to drive up and see the ghost town.
