Devil's Golf Course Details
What do you figure your handicap would be on this hellish golf course? No worries -- nobody actually plays golf here (save your strokes for the nearby golf course at the Furnace Creek resort), and only Satan himself would love to try on the rough and jagged salt pan on the floor of Death Valley. The Devil's Golf Course is comprised of halite salt crystals, once dissolved in the waters of Lake Manley and left behind as the prehistoric lake evaporated after the last ice age. The salt beds are up to 9,000 feet deep in some places. This area is above the valley's typical flood level, so the delicate crystals remain intact even when Lake Manly temporarily reforms after storms. Access is via a short gravel road off Badwater Road; it is sometimes closed in wet weather.
