Confidence Mill Details
It's never great when you name your gold-mining operation "Confidence" and pundits start appending "Lost" to the front. But that's just what happened to the Confidence Mining Company, which poured tens of thousands of dollars into the Confidence Mill (which opened in 1896) but could only extract a fraction of the gold investors were promised. A murder was the effective death knell for the mill: a mining expert brought in to improve ore processing was shot dead soon after arriving in Death Valley. The remains of the Confidence Mill can be seen on the floor of the valley, alongside Harry Wade Road.
