American white pelicans and double-crested cormorants nest in the tiny, rocky islands of the lake. Pronghorn antelopes, mule deer, and sage grouse live in the upland areas. The refuge is not open to the public, except for limited waterfowl and pronghorn antelope in-season hunting.
