If you're looking for a tough day-long hike that's easy to get to, Tanque Verde Ridge Trail is for you. Just off of Cactus Forest Drive, the trailhead is found at the Javelina Picnic Area and is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset (keep in mind that the scenic loop drive is closed and locked nightly, so plan accordingly). You can extend this hike to Juniper Basin for an 18-mile roundtrip.
