Puerco River Details

Bisecting the park with an east/west flow, the 167-mile-long Puerco River is the main tributary of the Little Colorado River. For most of the year, the river is a braided wash containing little or no water, although during the spring and early summer the Puerco often contains water. The river runs parallel to the south of I-40 inside much of the park; near the intersection of the river, Ninemile Wash, and Dead Wash is the Puerco Pueblo archeological site.
