Yavapai Geology Museum Details
The Yavapai Observation Station, built in 1928, was originally called the Yavapai Point Trailside Museum and remains a center for learning about the geology of the Grand Canyon. The building itself is built of indigenous Kaibab limestone and Ponderosa pine, and inside the Yavapai Geology Museum you'll learn about how the canyon's rock layers were laid down, the forces that uplifted the Colorado Plateau, and how the Colorado River carved out the canyon itself. Exhibits include a large topographic map of the canyon and interactive displays that explain the views out of the station's 25-foot, panoramic observation windows.
