Powell Point Details

Views from Powell Point include the Battleship and the end of Salt Creek, and this is a good alternative location for watching the sunrise because it tends to be less crowded than some others. There's a large monument to Grand Canyon explorer John Wesley Powell, who led two boat expeditions to explore the canyon, in 1869 and 1871. This also was the spot where Grand Canyon National Park was dedicated in 1920.
