Pima Point Details
Your reward for venturing this far west on the South Rim Trail is a virtually unmatched view of the Grand Canyon. From Pima Point you can take in a 40-mile sweep of the canyon, from the Powell Plateau to Bright Angel Canyon. To the immediate west is Hermit Creek and, snaking between the creek and Cope Butte, the Hermit Trail. Looking down you'll see Ninetymile Creek, and to the east is Monument Creek, the Granite Rapids, The Alligator, and the Tower of Set. Back in the 1920s and '30s there was a cable tram that brought tourists from Pima Point down into the canyon to Hermit Camp, where lodging once stood alongside Hermit Creek. Pima Point is one of the best places on the rim to see and sometimes hear the river. The splash and grind of Granite Rapids below can be heard echoing up the canyon walls on quiet days.
