Grand Canyon Lodge Details
This rustic hotel overlooking Bright Angel Point is the only overnight lodging available on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The main lodge building was completed in 1928, then rebuilt after a fire in 1932. It was designed by Union Pacific Railroad architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood, who also designed the Ahwaneee hotel in Yosemite, Bryce Canyon Lodge, and Zion Lodge. The hotel is built of native Kaibab limestone and timber and blends effortlessly into the Grand Canyon tableau. Accommodations include three different classes of cabins that sleep three to six people, and motel rooms with queen beds. There are no TVs in the rooms, reflecting their no-frills -- if comfortable -- nature. Advance reservations are highly recommended -- you can make them up to 13 months in advance. Try to time your dinner reservations with the sunset for a truly spectacular meal in the lodge restaurant, which has huge windows overlooking the canyon.
