Bright Angel Trailhead Details
The trailhead for the famous Bright Angel Trail is located just west of Bright Angel Lodge. It is a fascinating crossroads for Grand Canyon visitors of all stripes, where you'll find daytripping families and camera-toting Japanese tourists mingling with mule trains and hardcore hikers beginning or ending their journey on the long, challenging path to the canyon floor. The Bright Angel Trail is the most popular and accessible route into the canyon from the South Rim, and the trailhead can be quite crowded with people and animals at times. It's common for casual visitors to venture a short way down the trail to get a taste of adventure before turning back at the first tunnel or switchback. If you want to go further, be sure to heed the numerous warnings about trail safety, including having proper footwear, carrying plenty of water and energy food, and using caution when encountering steep or narrow trail segments and mules on the trail.
