Redoubt Volcano Details
With all the water and glaciers that fill the park, you may be surprised to hear that there are two active volcanos in Lake Clark National Park & Preserve, including the Redoubt Volcano. The 10,197-foot Redoubt Volcano began forming 800,000 years ago and has erupted at least 30 times in the past 10,000 years. Redoubt erupted in 1902, between 1966 and 1968, between 1989 and 1990, and most recently had 19 "major ash producing explosions" in 2009.
