Selawik National Wildlife Refuge Details
The 2.15 million acre Selawik Wildlife Refuge sits just south of Kobuk Valley National Park, just east of Kotzebue Sound. At its northern edge are the Waring Mountains and along its southern boundary are the Selawik Hills and Purcell Mountains. It extends eastward all the way to the Selawik River's headwaters and the continental divide. Over 240,000 acres of the refuge are designated as wilderness. The refuge includes many biomes including tundra, taiga, lakes, wetlands, grasslands, meadows, and valleys.
