The Great Gorge Details
The mile wide Great Gorge of the Ruth Glacier is the deepest gorge in the world -- deeper than the Grand Canyon, with cliffs rising 5,000 feet above the surface of ice that is 3,700 feet thick. The peaks surrounding the gorge include Mt. Dickey and the granite spires known as Moose's Tooth, Broken Tooth, Wisdom Tooth, and Bear Tooth. As it passes through the narrow gorge, the glacier drops 2,000 feet in elevation in just 10 miles. The spectacular Gorge is a popular flightseeing destination.
