Savage River Details
Named for a Native American man who ventured north from the state of Washington to seek his fortune in the Alaskan gold fields, the braided Savage River flows under the Denali Park Road at mile 14, close to the Savage River Campground and the check station that marks the end of the road for most private vehicles (driving further into the park is generally restricted to shuttles and tour buses). Also crossing the river is a pretty footbridge that marks the turnaround on the Savage River Loop Trail.
