Dog Sled Kennels Details
The kennels that are home to Denali's famous sled dogs are located in the Denali National Park Headquarters complex off Denali Park Road -- basically the last patch of civilization before you drive off into the Denali wilderness. The headquarters building is not open to the public, but visitors can tour the kennels to take pictures and meet the dogs anytime the kennels are open (typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and also can enjoy daily sled-dog demonstrations in the summer. The kennels house about 30 Alaskan huskies, some of which may be out on patrol at any given time. You can take a park bus to the kennels or walk about 1.5 miles from the Denali Visitor Center on the Rock Creek Trail.
