Skiddaw Details

Looming over the town of Keswick, Skiddaw mountain rises 3,054 feet and is prominent among the Northern Fells. Although it is the sixth-highest peak in England, the ascent of this peak is relatively easy, making it a popular destination for walkers. The summit is known as High Man, and there are several other high points along the ridgeline that comprises Skiddaw, including North Top, Middle Top, and South Top. A subsidiary summit is called Little Man. A great walk for beginners who want to claim that they have climbed a mountain, Skiddaw has multiple routes to the summit. The most popular begins in Keswick and crosses the slopes of Little Man on the way to the top. Alfred Wainwright, a pioneering chronicler of Lake District walks, recommended climbing Skiddaw via the Longside Edge route Ullock Pike to Longside and Carlside Col, followed by a steep climb to the summit).
