Derwent Water Details
Just a 10-minute walk south of the busy Lake District town of Keswick, Derwent Water is one of the park's most popular destinations. The lake is three miles long, one mile wide, and 72 feet at its deepest. There are plentiful recreation opportunities, including paddling, sailing, boating and swimming. There's an 8-mile walk around the lake, or you can hop onboard the Keswick Launch for a 50-minute cruise on the lake. If you'd rather pilot your own watercraft, you can rent row boats or small motorboats from the Keswich Launch as well. To rent a canoe or sailboat, visit Derwent Water Marina or Nichol End Marina in the northwest of the lake or Platty+ Water Sports in the south of the lake. There are a number of spots from which to launch your boat; ask at the marina where you rent for the nearest one. Although the footpath does encircle the lake, much of the shoreline is private property.
