Coniston Water Details

Coniston Water, in the southern part of the park, is the third largest lake in the Lake District. Visitors can enjoy the lake by paddling, sailing, boating or swimming. Your first stop should be the Coniston Boating Center, where you can rent bikes and watercraft. There's a boat launch and storage onsite, as well as a parking area, restrooms, a picnic area and the lakeshore Bluebird Cafe. Rentals include small motorboats, rowboats, sailing dinghies and canoes. The Coniston Launch offers regularly scheduled cruises on the lake covering two different circular routes, and the rebuilt Victorian steam-yacht gondola also offers a number of cruises, some combined with a walk into the fells. Although much of the lakeshore is private, there are also a number of footpaths along the western shore of the lake if you'd rather not get on or in the water.
