Blencathra Details

Also known as Saddleback, this northern Lake District mountain actually has six peaks, the highest of which is the 2,848-foot (868-meter) Hallsfell Top. Sharp Edge, on the east side of the mountain, is the most acclaimed path to the summit, and is named for its razor-like ridge: it's as much a scramble as a walk or climb, and offers views over Scales Tarn if you dare to look. Hall's Fell ridge on the south flank of Blencathra was one of Alfred Wainwright's favorite Lake District "walks," and requires less scrambling than Sharp Edge. Easier routes include Blease Fell and Scales Fell. At the top, a path connects Blencathra multiple peaks, and the view includes Skiddaw mountain, the Pennines range, and the major Lakelands fells, including Coniston Old Man, Crinkle Crags, Esk Pike, and Scafell Pike. You'll also see Derwent Water and Thirlmere lakes.
