Aughertree Fell Settlement Details
One of thousands of archaeological sites in the Lake District National Park, the Aughertree Fell Settlement features three farmsteads dating from Roman times. Each farm contains hut circles, prehistoric circular houses that were made by building a low bank of stone and earth. The surviving banks surround an area of level ground. Also evident are animal pens, enclosed by parallel banks and a ditch. Outside the settlement there's a complex of fields of various shapes and sizes, and although some boundaries are obvious, one of the best ways to see the settlement is through aerial photography. The Settlement is near a minor road between Uldale and the and B5299 road. There's roadside parking a little over a mile northeast of the village, from which it's a short walk to the site.
